Exploring the Ordinary.

Don't get the title wrong- I love superheroes and Marvel too (I personally am DC fan😉). When I watch a superhero movie, I expect the science behind it to be a little digestible; I understand that such movies aren't supposed to be taken seriously at all well because, they're science-"fictions" after all and fiction ain't supposed to be real. But this movie was way off the track in logic as well as science.
Don't worry all the spoilers are hidden in the post.😇
'Ant Man And The Wasp' is another great Marvel movie. The humor is amazing, superb action, interesting plot, THE most jaw dropping and edge-of-the-seat post-credits cut scene ever... but some points really ruined the fun in both the movies. Read on:
  • The bullet impact: So if you guys remember in the first Ant Man movie Hank Pym, the old guy who created the suit said that if you shrink to the size of an ant your mass will remain the same, so if you hit someone you'll have enough momentum to cause an impact greater than that of a bullet (imagine a 65 kg pea being thrown at you). Umm okay makes sense. But tell me one thing, if the shrunken Ant Man jumps like he usually does in the movies, why doesn't he cause bullet holes or even a little depression on table tops and other such surfaces? Any answers?
  • The 'logical' explanation: Remember how Hank tells the story of his wife Janet who was lost in the quantum world while saving the world? She had to penetrate the missile body but because they didn't have any proper equipment, (super suits but still this😒) she shrunk to the atomic level, penetrated the walls and expanded again to disarm the missile. Yeah, you can expand again to disrupt the circuits, but can't expand to escape the quantum world?

  • New micro-organic species: We wash our hands before our meals to get them clean. Because we know there are millions of bacteria, germs, dirt and what not on our hands, face, clothes or everything for that matter. The Ant Man suit is no exception. Now suppose Scott grows to the size of a house, fights the bad guys, and shrinks to normal again. What would happen to the oversized bacteria and microorganisms or dust or everything else that he left on the bad guys or the buildings when he touched them? What about all the vaccines and medicines that works on specific microorganisms but now they're all useless because the earth has been invaded by oversized germs?

  • The portable vehicles: Oh we were so amused when Hope just flicks out mini-sized version of whatever vehicle she likes, throws it on the ground, expands it and drives away. I wish I could carry my ride like that, I would have to give no parking tickets yay! But wait, why doesn't anything at all happen to the real/toy car when she throws it from 4 feet above the ground?😕

  • Scott's enchanting voice: When Scott shrinks, his vocal chords in his throat also shrink. If so, why doesn't the pitch of his voice change? Why does his voice remain the same when he grows bigger than normal? Maybe Stan Lee installed a voice changer in the suit when we weren't looking. Also, when he expands to a 65 ft giant, he becomes a slow-moving slowpoke monster. Going by the same logical conclusion, why doesn't he become a squirrel like fast moving little human when he shrinks?
  • Intangible you say?: This one is my favourite😀. The new entry to the marvel villain list in the second Ant Man movie,
  • The new realm: When Scott shrinks to the atomic size, we never observe the atomic phenomena that we studied in our science classes. See, if he carrier the same mass, that means if the mass of his normal sized body is shrunk to an atomic level, he should exert one of the strongest gravitational and nuclear pulls powerful enough to pull other atoms towards him and their atomic structure would simply collapse, causing a tremendous amount of energy and heat to be released. Ever heard of nuclear bombs? Similar things. But nothing like that happens. And who knew the quantum world would look something like a late light disco party with all the fancy lighting effects like in the movie?

  • The fab 'Lab': As you would have saw in the trailer,

  • Eternal life?: We all saw how Janet
  • Expand, shrink, expand, shrink: We saw how Scott expanded to 60ft then when he got back to normal he was soo tired he slept for 3 days straight. It was probably because to expand you need to put in energy from outside a system as you're doing work on the system. Okay for a second I can leave this point because it gets too nerdy. But going by Hank's bullet impact theory, Scott would have same mass when he grows big (😳) and would simply have no considerable impact force. His attacks would become so weak. Then what's the point of being a giant?

Apart from these 10 points, I would say the movie was worth a watch, it was quite an enjoyable experience. I personally have no hate for Marvel or anything its just what comes to my mind when I see this character using his superpowers.
Do you agree with my views? What do you feel about this movie? Feel free to express yourself in the comments section!😄

  1. Well you already mentioned in the begining that these aren't to be taken as exact science we know today. I believe these movies have an expert team of believers, who believe anything could happen with the advancement in technology. You mentioned some facts which we today believe are impossible but what are the possibilities that could be the future. Once a wise man said, "Drama is for the people who are afraid of science fiction." An aeroplane and a phone was once the plot of a science fiction and in today's world it is the reality. There are lot of theories like the modern string theory which are similar and as fascinating as the nine realm theory of marvel. We for now don't have much evidence to support the string theory but scientists are working day and night to bring it into existence. A car was once an idea into the mind of an innovator brought into reality by Sir Henry Ford. This might be enough to know why we need science fiction and these absurd ideas.

    1. Nicely said! That is why I love these movies!!
The only thing is this one lacked simple logic in some places otherwise I never rejected the shrinking technology and other sci-fi tech used in the movie.
I agree with you completely...Especially being a 90s kid only we can understand how much the world has advanced in terms of science and technology!

  2. Great work boy!! Those 10 points definitely defy umpteen acts in the movie!! Perfect quintessence of logic and science..

  4. I love sci-fi movies and ya I agree that even though it's fiction but there has to be some logic behind it. After reading your article I'd like to watch it to see how much I agree to what you've reviewed;)

  9. True, the science doesn't really add up, but it's still better than Indiana Jones surviving an atomic bomb blast in a fridge.
